Riverside Bed and Breakfast, LLC
Greetings from Riverside! I'm Linda, your hostess. My husband, Steve, and I have lived at Riverside for 28 years. During this time, among other things, we raised two children and restored our home. Then, seven years ago, we opened it as a bed and breakfast.
The spacious house has its original floors and woodwork, as well as large pocket doors, an original bathroom with a skirted bathtub and hot water registers that provide heat throughout. We have restored it in keeping with its history and with attention to detail, while decorating it with a harmonious mix of antiques and comfortable furnishings for a relaxed feeling. It is extremely clean and well maintained.
The stairwell displays a gallery of quilts that I have machine-pieced and hand-quilted. Still others are found on walls throughout the house. If you are a quilter, bring your projects along for me to see. My large, hand-braided wool rugs are used in three of the downstairs rooms and in one bedroom.
Three guest bedrooms are available. Tessa's room and Evan's room are named for our children who used them as bedrooms while growing up. Virginia Lee's room is named for the only child of the Maxwells', original owners of the house. All bedrooms are on the second floor and sections of the river can be seen from each room.
Evan's room is a very large room with a queen bed, a twin bed, desk, and other furnishings. It has three large bay windows with views of the expansive grounds, including a shade garden. A large silver maple is growing close to the house.
Tessa's room is a bright room with five windows and is in the tower of the house. It has maple woodwork and a full, antique, high-backed, walnut and chestnut bed. The view is toward the front lawn and rock wall garden. This room is pictured above.
Virginia Lee's room, the smallest of the three, has oak woodwork and a full mission- style bed make of oak by a local craftsman. A large Norway maple stands right outside the window and a daylily garden graces the front lawn. One of my hand-braided rugs lies on the hardwood floor.
I serve full breakfasts with my guests' schedules in mind. Typical breakfasts include
various egg dishes with homemade breads, or Belgian waffles, or even one of 6-8 different kinds of pancakes. All include breakfast meats, fruits, juices, and coffee or tea. Breads are my specialty and one guest recently claimed, “The bread alone is worth the trip.”
Thanks for allowing me to introduce our home. Come visit us.
