Situated in the Endless Mountains, The Inn at Montrose property proudly boasts almost 200 years of hospitality history. From the papers in the Montrose Historic Society, we can piece together the following history. In 1812, Isaac P. Foster from Southampton, Long Island built a home here on South Main Street with his tannery out back. Soon after the house became the Keeler Hotel. The basement was the site of the first jail termed “confinement for breakers of the public peace.” Additionally, the landmark was also believed to be a schoolhouse.
