In 1760, Peabody Bradford, great-grandson of Plymouth Colony's Governor William Bradford, built a 5-room Cape house on the northern bank of the Jones River. Its dock, known as "The Landing", received and dispatched all of the goods, cattle, and travelers leaving or coming by boat to the town of Kingston. A century and a half later, the owners enlarged the house and added a restaurant to accommodate travelers.
