Recommended by friends, Hale Makamae B&B is a great place to stay on the Big Island. We had the opportunity to stay in both the Garden Suite and Lanai Suite and both were very comfortable and had all the ammenities needed to make it feel like a second home. Breakfast was amazing. Great food and an opportunity to meet and chat with people from all over. The grounds are beautiful. There is so much to do near the B&B. Awesome snorkeling, swimming in a hot pond (perfect for little ones) that is warmed by hot spots in the ground, and it's very close to viewing lava at night when it's flowing. The Volcanoes National Park is not far away and Pahoa and Hilo offer great restaurants and shopping. When we return to the Big Island we will stay at Hale Makamae again.

My husband and I stayed at Hale Makamae B&B four nights in February, and couldn't have enjoyed ourselves more. Petra and John were exceptional hosts and made us feel very welcome in their home. We had the opportunity, due to other bookings, to experience two of their suites during our stay, so I feel qualified to say that all of the accommodations are top notch! Each suite was quite comfortable, and like our own little apartment. While we were there we met people from Japan, China, Holland, and California during our brief stay. Hale Makamae is a very popular getaway!

Hale Makamae Bed &Breakfast is only minutes away from thermally heated hot ponds (Ahalanui Park), beautiful coastal parks (Mac Kenzie Park, Isaac Hale Park), Kapoho tidepools for snorkeling, Lava Tree Park, Kehena Black Sand Beach, old Kalapana (covered by lava in 1990) and steam vents in an area full of history. The charming town of Pahoa offers a selection of very good restaurants, stores, and galleries.
