Recommended by friends, Hale Makamae B&B is a great place to stay on the Big Island. We had the opportunity to stay in both the Garden Suite and Lanai Suite and both were very comfortable and had all the ammenities needed to make it feel like a second home. Breakfast was amazing. Great food and an opportunity to meet and chat with people from all over. The grounds are beautiful. There is so much to do near the B&B. Awesome snorkeling, swimming in a hot pond (perfect for little ones) that is warmed by hot spots in the ground, and it's very close to viewing lava at night when it's flowing. The Volcanoes National Park is not far away and Pahoa and Hilo offer great restaurants and shopping. When we return to the Big Island we will stay at Hale Makamae again.

My husband and I stayed at Hale Makamae B&B four nights in February, and couldn't have enjoyed ourselves more. Petra and John were exceptional hosts and made us feel very welcome in their home. We had the opportunity, due to other bookings, to experience two of their suites during our stay, so I feel qualified to say that all of the accommodations are top notch! Each suite was quite comfortable, and like our own little apartment. While we were there we met people from Japan, China, Holland, and California during our brief stay. Hale Makamae is a very popular getaway!

Our three beautiful guest suites, Makamae Studio, Garden Suite and Lanai Suite, look out into our garden of flowers, fruit trees and tropical beauty. All of our suites offer separate entrances and private bathrooms. Their bright, airy and spacious ambience will make your stay pleasant and comfortable

The Makamae Studio is located on the first floor with view and entrance into the garden. With its king-size bed, ceiling fan, private bathroom and separate entrance it is a cozy room for one person or a couple. Makamae Studio also offers a coffee station. Rates: $95 per night (up to two guests) plus local tax. Book the Makamae Studio for seven nights and get the seventh night FREE!

The Garden Suite is on the first floor and its entrance and living room are looking out into the garden. The Suite offers a dining/living room area and a kitchenette with hot plate, microwave, refrigerator, coffee maker, toaster oven, several small kitchen appliances, dishes, etc. The apartment has its private bathroom and separate entrance. With the queen-size bed in the master bedroom the suite is perfect for a couple. A single bed can be moved into the living room. Rates: $130 per night (up to two guests) plus tax, additional guests over 12 are $20 per night plus tax extra, children under 12 are free. The Lanai Suite is located on the second floor and its master bedroom, living room and balcony are overlooking the garden. The Suite offers two bedrooms, a dining/living room area, and a kitchenette with stove top, refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, toaster, dishes and other kitchen items. The futon full-size couch/bed in the living room, the king-size bed in the master bedroom and queen-size bed in the second bedroom provide space for up to 5 guests. A separate entrance and your own bathroom give you full privacy.
