The origin of “Frozen Dog” is traced to Colonel William Hunter, an early Emmett settler who planted orchards on a ranch he called the Frozen Dog. In the 1880s he moved to Kansas City and began publishing a fictitious Idaho newspaper called the Howling Wolf. He also wrote a book entitled Frozen Dog Tales.
In his youth the builder/owner of the Digs worked in the Frozen Dog orchards. Years later while teaching English in the Outback of Australia, he discovered “Digs”means lodging/home. He went on to teach his way around the world and later also traveled extensively as a businessman, and wherev. . .
